Average. Most reach is staying within your existing audience.

Reach vs. Impressions on TikTok

Impressions count every time your content was shown, including the same person seeing it more than once. Reach counts only the unique people who saw it. Reach is always less than or equal to impressions. Dividing impressions by reach gives you frequency, the average number of times each viewer encountered your content.

How to Calculate Reach Rate

Reach rate is the share of your audience your content actually reached: (Reach / Followers) × 100. If 8,000 unique people saw a video and you have 20,000 followers, your reach rate is 40%. On TikTok, reach rate can climb well above 100% because the For You Page distributes content far beyond your existing followers, which is the whole point of going viral.

Why Reach Matters for Growth

A high frequency with low reach means you are showing the same content to the same people repeatedly, while high reach relative to your follower count means you are breaking into new audiences. Breaking out is what fuels growth on TikTok.
