Multiple and weighted score

Two ways to rank a video against its audience: the multiple, and a weighted score that gives more credit to beating a larger audience.

Two multipliers, not one

The word "multiplier" means two different things in fypnow. Do not compare a number from one with a number from the other.

  • Niche multiplier = views ÷ followers. Used on niche walls and catalogue results (multiplier on get_niche_videos, get_trending_videos and search_hooks).
  • Tracked-creator breakout = views ÷ the creator's usual views. Used by list_breakouts and creator reports. It measures a video against that creator's own normal range.

The weighted score

weighted_score = ln(views / followers) × ln(followers)

The first factor is the multiple on a log scale. The second grows with audience size, so the same multiple earns a higher score on a bigger account. A video that fell short of its follower count scores below zero; the score is not clamped.

It is null when followers are 1 or fewer, or views are 0 or fewer. Null means "not scoreable", not zero. Rows with a null score sort last under order_by=weighted.

Same multiple, different score

  • 50× on an account with 100 followers (5,000 views): weighted score 18.02.
  • 50× on an account with 10,000 followers (500,000 views): weighted score 36.03.
  • 2.5× on an account with 100,000 followers (250,000 views): weighted score 10.55.

Bands

Responses carry the number, and the bands are a reading aid. A score at or above the floor falls in that band:

  • 35 and above: exceptional
  • 25 and above: very strong
  • 18 and above: strong
  • 10 and above: promising
  • below 10: no band

Which sort to use

  • Multiple (default). Use it to find videos that did far better than their own account's following would suggest, including from small accounts.
  • Weighted. Use it when a big multiple on a tiny account is not the evidence you want, and you would rather see wins on larger audiences first.
  • Never rank by raw views: that mostly measures account size.
  • Compare like with like. TikTok and YouTube Shorts follower counts do not mean the same thing, and a multiple on a 3-day-old video is not the same evidence as one on a 3-month-old video.

Where you can ask for it

  • get_niche_videos (GET /v1/niches/{id}/videos): order_by=weighted. Weighted ranking is applied to the top 1,000 rows by multiplier, then paged.
  • get_trending_videos (GET /v1/trending/videos): order_by=weighted.

Both return weighted_score on every row whichever sort you choose. The default stays multiplier, so existing callers see the same order as before.
